At this point, the notion of a naked dress is anything but shocking. We’ve seen Florence Pugh roaming Rome in transparent Valentino tulle, a heavily pregnant Rihanna rocking up at a fashion show in a see-through Dior négligée, and EmRata walking her dog with her lingerie on full display beneath her maxi dress. But now the transparent trend has expanded beyond barely-there minis and diaphanous gowns to take in tailoring, too. One of the first to adopt the look? Kim Kardashian.
Kim has never shied away from the subversive when it comes to fashion, striding out in everything from a latex Mugler dress designed to appear dripping wet, to a leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana catsuit styled with thigh-high boots. Last year, she famously wore Marilyn Monroe’s sheer Jean Louis gown to attend the 2022 Met Gala.
To attend the Time 100 event in New York this week, she swerved a naked dress in favour of a see-through suit by Rick Owens, comprising a blazer and flared trousers with a matching barely-there bandeau top. Kardashian’s ostensibly demure look was actually characteristically revealing – her jacket and trousers were entirely sheer. It wouldn’t be Kim if it wasn’t: this, after all, is the woman who turned 42 in a whisper of white Dolce lace that exposed her black underwear beneath.
